Cool. brevity cites Jason Salavon (with whom I’m not familiar); but it made me think of Jim Campbell’s “Illuminated Averages.” He’s used this technique with various images, including a few movies; I saw his “averaged” image of the entire film “Psycho” at the SFMoMA last year.
