a public lynching

Went with Craig and his girlfriend (and my former co-worker) Laura to see Stephen Lynch in concert tonight at the Birchmere tonight. What a riot. Tears-streaming-down-my-face, pounding-my-hands-on-the-table funny. If I thought he was funny on Comedy Central and on the radio, well, this was 100 times better; as wicked and witty as his lyrics are, they're only enhanced by his physical comedy and presence. And oh, he's even cuter in person, if that were possible.

And the over two-minute segment at the end of Altar Boy where he, effectively, blows the microphone, alone was worth the admission price. My heart's racing again now just remembering it.

Seemingly a very charming and down-to-earth guy, I'm only sorry that the line was too long for me to stick around to meet him and have him sign his CDs after the concert. I had wanted to let him know about the entries [1 and 2] about him in this blog, and also ask him how he feels about some people having posted some of his lyrics as comments thereto. I'm going to send him an email and ask, because I suspect he'd rather have them come down; my impression has been that he doesn't like to share his lyrics in print.

So the evening was great. The Birchmere food, of course, is not very good--but then, that's not why one goes to the club--but the atmosphere, the company, and the show were fantastic. When Craig and Laura picked me up at the condo, my headache was in full swing, and my mood wasn't dramatically improved from Thursday night, though I promised myself (and kept it) that I would be positive and up with them. By the end of the evening, I felt great: no headache, a wonderful shared experience with friends, and the positive effects of a lot of laughter.

Stephen, if you ever read this... thanks. And if your friend was even partially right in his monologue about the first way in which you're different (you know what I'm talking about), I am so here for you. Oh, and regarding the physical deformity: well, I've got two I'd be more than willing to share with you.

I finally watched his Comedy Central Presents... special, which got rerun recently. Hilarious!

A friend of mine went to that Birchmere gig--I should've tagged along, but at the time I had no idea who this Stephen Lynch character was. Now I know what I've been missing!
